Doctoral or Post-Doctoral Position in Mathematics

(PhD: part-time 50 %, E 13 TV-L, 3 years; PostDoc: part-time 75 %, E 13 TV-L, 2 years)

Reference No. 2023/131. The start date is October 1st, 2023 or by agreement. The position is available initially for 3 or 2 years.

The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.

The position is available as part of a project studying moments and moment functionals. The project is mainly funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG and provides an exciting opportunity for candidates wishing to conduct frontier research on in mathematics. The research of moments has a strong interdisciplinary focus, at the intersection of partial differential equations, real algebraic geometry, and optimization. Depending on the qualification of the applicant we will focus on at least one research direction. The working language is English or German.

Your Responsibilities

    • Guided and independent research
    • Participation in research seminars
    • Preparation of a PhD-thesis (for PhD candidates) or a research grant proposal (for PostDocs)

Your Competencies

    • Masters degree in Mathematics
    • MSc in Mathematics (measure and integration theory, analysis and partial differential equations, real algebraic geometry)
    • Deeper training in at least one of the following fields: partial differential equations, real algebraic geometry or optimization
    • Good English language skills
