Research Assistant / PhD Student / Post-Doctoral Fellow

Reference No. 2019/133. This definite term position is available immediately and limited to up to three years. A prolongation may be possible. In principle, this position can be divided into two part-time positions.

The University of Konstanz has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative since 2007.

The position is available at the department of Computer and Information Science, Chair for Software and Systems Engineering (Prof. Dr. Stefan Leue, http://sen.uni-konstanz.de, +49 7531 88-2893, stefan.leue@uni-konstanz.de). The Chair for Software and Systems Engineering is developing methods and tools for the design and analysis of complex systems. We favor a model-based approach in combination with with formal and algorithmic analysis methods. Application areas include safety analyses for critical cyber physical systems, in particular in the automotive domain, causality reasoning, real-time systems, biological systems and legal tech. We are a member of the newly founded Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behavior. We offer English language academic courses from a large range of foundational and applied topics in software and systems engineering and formal methods.

Your responsibilities

  • Your responsibilities include contributing to research and teaching, thereby also shaping our activities. Teaching obligations include tutoring at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • There will be the opportunity to prepare a PhD thesis during the term of this position, and pursuing a PhD is highly desired.
  • Candidates possessing a PhD can be hired as post-doctoral fellows in the same pay scale. Doctoral candidates will be preferred.
  • While full proficiency in German is not a requirement for this position, it is recommended that candidates acquire a basic proficiency during their employment.

Your competencies

  • You possess a scientific graduate degree (Master’s level) or a PhD in Computer Science with excellent grades.
  • You have a solid background in software engineering and its formal foundations. You feel comfortable working on foundational as well as application-oriented problems and you are interested in an interdisciplinary perspective.
  • You enjoy developing software and you have significant software development experience.
  • You possess excellent English language proficiency in speech and writing.
