A Post-Doctoral Position in Language Contact and Change

(full-time, E 13 TV-L)

Reference Number 2023/136. The starting date is October 1st 2023. The position is available for one and a half years (18 months). In principle this position can be divided into two part-time positions.

The position will be affiliated with the Department of Linguistics: https://www.ling.uni-konstanz.de.

The position is part of the DFG-funded Research Unit SILPAC (Structuring the Input in Language Processing, Acquisition and Change), which aims to build bridges between psycholinguistics and historical linguistics. It is situated in project H4, Modelling lexical diffusion in syntax: non-finite complementation in Modern English.

Your Responsibilities

    • Conducting original research using historical corpora
    • Annotating Early Modern English corpora
    • Writing up research results for publication
    • Presenting research at conferences
    • Participating in SILPAC group events

Your Competencies

    • Essential: A strong PhD in a relevant field (historical linguistics, language contact)
    • Essential: Excellent academic writing skills and fluency in English
    • Essential: experience in at least two of the following areas: a) historical linguistics, b) syntax, c) corpus linguistics
    • Desirable: Early Modern English skills
