Tenure Track Professorship in Economic History

Reference No. 2025/061. The Department of History, Sociology, Sport Science and Empirical Educational Research in the Faculty of Humanities seeks to fill this position by October the 1st, 2026.

The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.

The successful candidate contributes to research and teaching in the area of economic history with a global historical perspective focusing on the 19th and 20th century. We particularly welcome applicants who additionally plan to specialize in the area of environmental history. Please include a three-page (maximum) outline of future research and teaching plans. The professorship will be mainly responsible for teaching courses in the area of economic history. The teaching requirement is two courses per semester before, and three courses after the interim evaluation. We are looking for a candidate who is willing to become involved in ongoing and future collaborative research initiatives. Applicants should have a strong publication record in international journals, as well as experience in university teaching and excellent teaching skills.

In all other respects, the hiring requirements for tenure track professorships follow from § 51 paragraph 2,3 and § 51 b paragraph 1 of the Landeshochschulgesetz. The position is a tenure track position leading to an appointment as a W3 professor. Upon a positive evaluation, an appointment to a W3 position is made without a new job announcement in a suitably simplified appointment procedure.
