Junior Professorship (untenured) in Sociology of the life course with a focus on age and health

The Department of History, Sociology, Sport Science and Empirical Educational Research in the Faculty of Humanities, and seeks to fill this position by April 1, 2025.

The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.

We are looking for an early career researcher with extensive expertise in the study of demographic, social and economic processes and developments over the life course and their consequences for health in later life. The ideal candidate will strengthen and complement the focus on inequality research at the University of Konstanz with an original research programme and contribute to the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality".

We encourage researchers with a focus on quantitative cross-national comparative research on inequalities across the life courseto apply. The successful candidate is expected to have international research experience and should contribute to teaching in both the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Sociology. We are interested in early career researchers with an excellent international publication record, strong teaching skills and experience in organising interdisciplinary research projects.

The recruitment requirements include a university degree and a doctorate which should have been obtained within the last 6 years (any childcare periods will be taken into account). In addition, the candidate must have obtained funding for his/her own position (within the Emmy Noether Programme).

In all other respects, the hiring requirements for junior professorships follow from § 51 para. 2,3 of the Landeshochschulgesetz. The details of junior professorships at the University of Konstanz, particularly the interim and final evaluation, are governed by § 51 para. 7 of the Landeshochschulgesetz and the procedural regulations for junior professorships and junior lectureships without tenure track (§§ 51, 51a LHG), available online.
