Doctoral Position in Biology

The Plant Interactions Ecophysiology Group (PD Dr. Judy Simon) at the Department of Biology offers a PhD position within the joined project “Adaptation strategies of beech forests to changing environmental conditions at different manage-ment intensities”. Climate change places new challenges on forest ecosystems by affecting tree growth, and thus fitness and productivity. Hence, understanding the processes and underlying mechanisms and their responses to environmental change will aid to develop strategies for sustainable forest ecosystems. In our project, we will study the influence of management and resource availability on tree nutrition and chemical defence over the growing season.

Your responsibilities

  • Sample collection in joined field campaigns with our collaborators
  • Sample analyses (biochemical)
  • Data evaluation
  • Supervision of student helpers

Your Competencies

  • We are seeking a dynamic, reliable, and highly motivated person who enjoys working in the field and laboratory independently as well as in a team, and has a structured and thorough working approach
  • Interest in plant ecophysiology
  • Strong written and oral communications skills in English
  •  Valid drivers licence (remote field sites)
  • field experience and good statistical knowledge desirable
