Tenure Track Professorship in Software Engineering

The Department of Computer and Information Science in the Faculty of Sciences, subject to the approval of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden Württemberg and the University Council, seeks to fill this position by October 1, 2023.

The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.

The successful candidate is expected to significantly advance the state of the art in the field of Software Engineering in terms of theory and practice. Applicants should be internationally recognised in at least one current research area in this field. In addition, candidates should be able to connect to the main research area of the department: methods and systems in support of “Explorative Analysis and Interactive Visualisation of Complex Models and Large Data Spaces”. Finally, contributions to and integration with the department’s interdisciplinary initiatives (e.g., Collective Behaviour, CHDS, SFB-TRR 161) are highly desirable.

Recruitment requirements are a university degree in Computer Science (“Informatik”) or a closely related field. Applicants should have a strong academic track record substantiated through publications at high-rank venues, experience in obtaining external funding, and project leadership. Equally important, the applicant must be able to provide quality teaching in the undergraduate (B.Sc. Informatik) and graduate (M.Sc. Computer and Information Science) programmes offered by the department. The candidate is expected to teach courses in German within three years of appointment.

In all other respects, the hiring requirements for tenure track professorships follow from § 51 paragraph 2,3 and § 51 b paragraph 1 of the Landeshochschulgesetz. The position is a tenure track position leading to an appointment as a W3 professor. If your evaluation is positive, you will obtain tenure as a W3 professor after completing a simplified version of the professorial appointment process.
