Junior Professorship of Data and Information Mining (f/m/d)

Reference No. 2020/091. The Department of Computer and Information Sciences in the Faculty of Sciences seeks to fill this position by October 1, 2020. The junior professorship is untenured.

The University of Konstanz has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and Excellence Strategy since 2007.

The successful candidate is expected to have outstanding knowledge in the field of research “Data and Information Mining”. The candidate should have excellent skills in at least one or more of the following research topics: Knowledge Discovery, Data Mining, Analysis of Unstructured Data, as well as general methods of Artificial Intelligence. A close connection of these topics to applications in bioinformatics, health science, or social sciences is particularly desirable.

A close cooperation with the members of the main research topic of our department called “Analysis and interactive visualization of complex models and large data spaces”, the Centers of Excellence “Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour” and “The Politics of Inequality”, as well as the two focus areas of the University of Konstanz “Data Science” and “Health Science” are expected.

Candidates are expected to teach basic and advanced lectures on the topic of “Data and Information Mining” in our undergraduate (Bachelor “Informatik”) and graduate program (Master “Computer and Information Science”). Teaching languages are German and English. Therefore, teaching experience in the German language is expected.

Recruitment requirements are a university degree and doctorate in “Computer Science” (“Informatik”) or a closely related study program, an excellent international publication record and competitive funding activities. Initially, the appointment is for three or four years, with an extension to six years after successful evaluation.
